Injured defender could miss beginning of the season

City defender Russell Martin could miss the beginning of the Canaries’ Championship fight due to a back spasm, according to BBC Norfolk.

Martin, who had previously been the centre of speculation with reports linking him to a move to Brighton and Hove Albion, had returned home from Norwich’s training camp in Austria to see a specialist after missing two pre-season matches.

When talking to BBC Radio Norfolk, Manager Alex Neil said the beginning of the season and City’s opening game of the season against Blackburn may come around too early for the 30-year-old.

He said:

It [the first game of the season] is probably going to cut it fine for him.
