Our man of the match vs Liverpool

Following yesterday’s thrilling 5-4 defeat to Liverpool, there were many performances that caught the eye for good and bad reasons. Not one Norwich player was fantastic throughout the goal-fest but the man who came the closest was new signing, Steven Naismith.

Not only did Naismith score a very good goal to put the Canaries 2-1 up before half-time, he also won a second half penalty and was a constant menace to the Liverpool backline on a very impressive debut.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t on the winning side against his old Merseyside rivals as Norwich went from a commanding 3-1 lead to 4-3 down at 90 minutes. Sebastian Bassong looked to have secured a point for Norwich in stoppage time but England international Adam Lallana stole all three points right at the death for Liverpool and Naismith and his new teammates left Carrow Road empty handed.

However, it must be said Naismith’s performance wasn’t the only good showing from the Canaries. Dieumerci Mbokani and fellow debutant Ivo Pinto both had good games with Mbokani scoring an excellent backheel that beat Mignolet. But they lost out to the former Everton man who Norwich fans will hope scores many more important goals this season.
